Cinnamon Raisin Bread


  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1.25 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lard or shortening
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon


  • In a bowl, add the warm water, yeast and sugar. Let sit for about 15 minutes to allow it to bloom.
  • Add in 1/2 of the flour, the salt, the cinnamon and shortening. Mix
  • Add in the raisins and remaining flour. Mix until completely incorporated. If too dry, add a table spoon more of water.
  • Grease the sides of your bread baker
  • Place dough in baker and cover with a towel until it rises to the top of the baker. This can take an hour or more depending on temperature, humidity and such.
  • Once the bread has risin to at least the rim of the baker, place the baker in a cold oven.
  • Turn the oven on to 350 degrees
  • Bake for 40 minutes
  • Carefully remove the bread from the baker and place on a wire rack to cool before slicing.
  • If you want to ice the bread, wait approximately 15 minutes before adding the icing to the top.
